Pressure Cooker Safety Precautions

Today's Indian pressure cookers are safer and efficient than their of age counterparts; besides, they have many advantages. When using pressure cooker, basic safety precautions should always be followed:

  • Keep children away from the pressure cooker while it’s hot
  • Touch the pressure cooker sensibly when in operation. Do not touch its surface; lift the pressure cooker using the handles. If too hot, use hand gloves. Take extreme care especially when moving a pressure cooker containing hot liquids
  • Do not use pressure cooker for frying oil or other purposes. Only use it for the purposes described in the instruction manual
    • For food which has the tendency to foam or rise, avoid filling the cooker with more than half, especially rice, legumes, and broths. This might clog the vent pipe developing excess pressure that could be risky
    • Certain foods like cereals, apple sauce, cranberries, oatmeal, noodles, macaroni, or spaghetti can also foam, fizz, and sputter. This could also clog the pressure release device. Hence avoid cooking these stuff in your Tuffware Pressure Cooker
    • When cooking doughy food, gently shake the cooker before opening the lid to avoid food ejection
  • Never place the pressure cooker into the microwave
  • Your Tuffware Pressure Cooker is designed for use with the gas, electric stove, and induction cooking tops. Do not attempt other heating sources
  • Before you use the pressure cooker, always check that the safety mechanisms are in place. See that the pressure release device isn’t clogging before use. Refer to “operating instructions”
  • Since pressure cooker cooks under pressure, make sure you close it properly before operating, to avoid accidents. See “Operating instructions”
  • Never open the pressure cooker until the pressure inside has been released and it has cooled completely.
  • Clean your pressure cooker after every use
  • If you’re finding it difficult to push the handles apart, this means that the cooker still hasn’t released entire pressure– do not force open it at this time
  • For releasing the pressure manually, read the instruction manual
  • Never use the pressure cooker without water, this could lead to an accident
  • When the desired pressure is obtained, turn down the heat so that the steam does not evaporate quickly
  • Do not adjust the safety mechanisms or try to repair the pressure cooker yourself beyond the instructions provided in the manual. Reach out to the store where you purchased it from,in case of any problems
  • Use only the recommended Tuffware Pressure Cooker replacement parts, to ensure your pressure cooker operates smoothly and safely
